NEW FREE MP3s AT TMBG.COM

From Flansburgh:

"Just 12 hours since we fell off our collective couches watching the Simpsons last night. The new episode ended with Istanbul, Not Constantinople. Very exciting (but why are we always the last to know about this stuff?)!

We've been ensconced in the sun-free studios of NYC working on that always difficult 11th album, songs for a couple of fancy Hollywood movies (!?!), and preparing ourselves for the next evolution in live shows. On Thursday we are in Los Angeles on the Sunset Strip, performing at the House of Blues. This is an 18+ show, being filmed for Music Choice. We will be doing an opening set of selections from Venue Songs and will be joined for the performance by our good pal Andy Richter, pictured below, who will be narrating the proceedings. (he's the one on the left)

We will also be performing a free in-store performance at Amoeba Records. Navigating the terminology "for everyone" is always suspect and especially dynamic for TMBG these days, so we have created the...

They Might Be Giants In-Store Mission Statement:

To strive for excellence in an overcrowded but safe family-friendly atmosphere
that is as musically stimulating and emotionally unavailable
as They Might Be Giants' adult shows,
with no Raffi after taste.

The Amoeba show will be about a half hour and performed on what we are told is a highly legitimate stage for a record store. We will also be signing whatever you might care to have us sign and giving away delightful sticker sheets (which surprisingly are a big hit with adults). Pre-signed CDs and DVDs will be available day of show for the busy busy people of LA who aren't up for braving the crowd.

We will also be performing Venue Songs in San Diego County, our debut performance at legendary Belly Up in Solana Beach with an undisclosed special guest narrator, along with our favorite extra-loud rock songs.

Hope to see you somewhere out there!

Your pal-

i already have the free songs. i wish they'd quit doin that. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif (username:tmbg password: thespinesurfs incase you don't)

some of the links might be screwy, & there was supposed to be a pic of Andy, but i couldn't see it, cuz it came to my gmail account, & i couldn't find a way to turn the HTML on. when it comes to my yahoo, i'll post it. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

they made no mention of their alleged Kimmel appearance. i think whoever started that rumor got lied to. tmbgtalk/-nanny.gif

Cronny- 03-21-2005
pretty funny that they were just as surprised as we were about thier little Simpsons appearence.

uh-oh... I already bought tickets and me and my friends are planning on going. I REALLY hope that rule isn't enforced well... tmbgtalk/-frown.gif

I wonder if after watching The Simpsons they stay tuned for Arrested Development. Thats my favorite show of all-time

grchereck- 03-21-2005
Oh, I love that show, too... tmbgtalk/-biggrinflip.gif tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif

tmbgtalk/-omg.gif What the...? Another album already? (I take it they don't count Here Come The ABCs as their 11th studio album... tmbgtalk/icon2.gif)

The best half-hour of my week! tmbgtalk/-grnbiggrin.gif

the best part is that I got my best friend into it and he's a great person to watch funny stuff with cause he laughs at everything.

grchereck- 03-21-2005
That's cool. tmbgtalk/+SMcolor_.gif

The Simpsons is still my #1 favorite show, so Simpsons paired with Arrested make up the best hour of my week. tmbgtalk/-grnbiggrin.gif

i don't think they count the kid stuff. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

just cuz they're 'working' on their 11th album, that doean't mean they'll hurry... especially if they're doing 2 movie songs as well...

i'm not gonna get all antsy just yet. tmbgtalk/-wink.gif

Don't think I'm trying to change your mind or anything, but don't you think that The Simpsons (certain really good episodes excluded) has been lacking somewhat in recent years?

Oh, I didn't think they would be coming out with another album already -- I was just surprised to hear that they were working on one. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif

tmbgtalk/icon2.gif Well, sure... I remember when it used to be a gentler, more down-to-earth kind of show (like King of the Hill), and the jokes were more memorable and quotable. ("He didn't give you gay, did he?" "To alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems!") But in more recent seasons, the show has gotten way more fast-paced and off-the-wall in its humor, without so much emphasis on the relationships between the characters (except in some of the better episodes). I don't know if that's what you had in mind, but those are my own thoughts on the show... tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

klimdeeni- 03-21-2005
I think the 11th CD is something that they're probably going to be semi working on alot. Kinda like, a thing to think about in their spare time between other small projects. I wonder what kind of music they'll be doing for these movies. Hopefully not a kids movie, cuz I wanna hear more rock'n music from them. But of coarse, sensurround was on power rangers and that song knocks my socks off. *takes socks off to prove point* so i guess it doesn't matter what kind of movie it is. Besides, they rock no matter what tmbgtalk/action-smiley-035.gif

biff- 03-22-2005
i think they had already written Sensurround before Power Rangers. it was on some EP... i forget which one... S-E-X-X-Y maybe. tmbgtalk/icon2.gif anyhoo, my copy of whatever EP it was didn't include it... so i had to aquire it by other means at a much later date. tmbgtalk/-naughty2.gif

it's one of my all time favourite songs of theirs, so my socks are off too. tmbgtalk/104.gif

BigJohn- 03-22-2005
Actually, it was on Power Rangers first, then on the S-E-X-X-Y EP.

They've also done songs for the movies Hitting the Ground and Return to Neverland, and of course - Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

biff- 03-22-2005
i stand corrected. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif

that's probably why it wasn't on my EP. i'm sure we bought it long before the Power Rangers movie... i think. tmbgtalk/-nut.gif

biff- 03-22-2005
ps... i added the Andy pic. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif
