ok, i'm runnin on like 3 hours of sleep, so here goes nuthin...
the drive was long, & the sun baked me through the back window most of the way. it was uneventful though. the kids did a good job of driving.
we got there around 6:15. the Blue Note website said the doors opened at 7, but when we got there it was 7:30. my tickets were waiting at the box office. the line was already pretty long, so we got at the end. luckily it was in the shade, cuz it was like 100º. (no kiddin) we sweated & waited till 7:30. there was an occasioonal breeze, thank goodness. (we woulda got there earlier, but we didn't leave home till 12:15, & there was a bunch of road construction, & we had to stop & eat, & we took one wrong turn, which added about 10 minutes)
the doors opened & we went inside. it was nice & cool in there, which was good, cuz i was starting to get a little woozy. we weren't in time to get against the stage, so we were in the 2nd row of stander uppers. (like 2 feet from the stage) i had a tall guy right in front of me though) the Blue Note is a nice venue. it's really old though. luckily the roof didn't cave in. the celing is like a zillion feet up, & there's a balcony.
the first act was pretty funny. i liked em. the bass player reminded me a little of Vox, except fatter, with puffy cheeks. it was something about the look on his face or something. i thought that was kinda cool, cuz today is Voxxy's birthday.
the 2nd act, Corn Mo was a dude with an accordion, all by himself. he looked kinda like Meatloaf. he was awesome! he did Freebird, & some of his own songs. they were all good, & really funny. he did a little speech about doing what you want in life, & following your dreams. i loved him! i saw him after the show & gave him a hug. i told him he was an inspiration, & that he made me want to go do something, but i didn't know what. ignatz took my pic with him. i hope it turns out.
TMBG came out with a really cool intro. it was that triumphant choir thingy that you hear sometimes. (i wish i knew what it was called... anybody know? i'll check GR's review & see if she does) it was all black & white, & groovy.
they started out with a song about the Blue Note. it was cool. i hope they put it on Dial A Song or something so i can hear it again sometime. they love that venue. they've played there tons of times, & that's where AJ (the dude who made Gigantic) first saw em. that's why i wanted to see em there so bad.
they did a bunch of songs that i couldn't really name till the kids get up. my memory sux you know.
there were a couple of obnoxious drunks who kinda cheezed me off near the end. they pushed their was up to the front to make @$$es of themselves. (which they did, very successfully) i thought galoot was gonna punch the one that came near me. (he did kinda threaten him to "stay away from my wife") he is the sweetest thing. he won't let nobody mess with me.
umm, the highlights for me were when they did Ana Ng, & The End Of The Tour. i've always wanted to see them do those songs live.
they did 3 encores. they finished up with the Blue Note song again.
after the show, we had to sit down. my legs felt like bricks. we sat & smoked a ciggy, & i got some confetti off the floor. oh, i took some pix during the show, but i don't know how they'll come out cuz of the broken camera incident. i only took pix during the first 2 or 3 songs, cuz i don't like to bother them with my flash.
we went out to the t-shirt area, & saw Dan Miller & the drummer on the way. we shook their hands & thanked them for the show. i never got to talk to Danny W. the new drummer is awesome!
Flansy was selling stuff, so i bought galoot an Apollo 18 shirt, a pink hayseed shirt for Kaitlin, & a Spine CD for me & one for ignatz. bee didn't want any TMBG stuff (we already had pretty much everything they were sellin) so i got him a Corn Mo CD.
anyhoo, we waited around for Flans to start signing stuff. he signed my Spine CD, & galoot took 2 pix of us together. then i took one of him with the boys. i didn't say anything stoopid. i never did find a rock for him to sign, & i didn't show him my tattoo. i figured my tat was something i did for me, not to show it to Flans, & besides... the tattoo dude kinda gypped me out of some of his teeth anyway.
a little later galoot got a couple of tapes, & Flans signed em & i got their pic.
we were just kinda hangin arouns & i heard Flansy say "who has gum?" i said "i do!" & some other guy did too, so we kinda raced to give him a piece of gum. we kinda tied, so he chewed them both at the same time. i also gave him another piece & told him to save it for later.
he's really approchable, btw. a real sweet friendly guy.
oh, we overheard him talkin to a guy about recording all the shows & how it makes Linny kinda nervous. i wonder if they're working on a live CD or maybe a DVD? (he didn't say wether it was audio or video)
there's lots more to tell, but i'm gonna go ahead & submit before i do something stoopid & have to start over. (stranger things have happened) i'll post more in a minute.
to be continued........

man, i just read that & it's typo city central! i'd fix it right now, but i gotta call the satellite guy.
he really was! i hope i get to see him again some time. when i get my pix back i'm gonna scan the one of us & send it to him. he said we could email him at his site. he also gave me a sticker, btw. he's a sweetheart.
those pix are great, day!.
i know there was more stuff i was gonna tell in a subsequent post, but it's totally gone from my head now. oh, the satellite guy said there will be a crew here around 6:30 tomorrow morning for sure.

oh man! here's something i forgot....
when galoot bought his tapes he said to the girl at the booth... "hmm, i have just about everything you have, i don't know what to buy" & she sez "i bet i have something you don't have" & handed him this pick. Flansy had handed her a bunch of money out of his pocket, & the pick was in there. i don't know for 100% sure, but i like to think it was the one he used in the show.
he just gave it to me as a gift.
is that fabulous or what?!! i have the best man in the whole wide world. he gives me whatever i want, & he couldn't tell me no to save his life. (i didn't ask for it though, he just gave it to me cuz that's how he is)

biff!
Well, shucks... I didn't get to hear "Ana Ng" at MY show (or ANY songs from Lincoln, for that matter).
Oh, and I thought it was cool that you actually picked up some confetti off the floor after the show, because that's what I did, too!

YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! Sounds like an awesome time!!!!! Of course there's always got to be a tall guy in front and obnoxious drunks.. What would a show be without them??
I'd love to see them do End of the Tour live!! I don't think I have.. if I have, I don't remember, so I'd like to see them do it again. Did they do Spiralling Shape?? Yay!! Guitar pick! Galoot is such a sweetheart, you are really lucky.
I have TMBG confetti too
Was your tattoo at least semi-visible so that there was a chance he might have seen it? I knwo you didn't get it to please him, but I think he would have thought it was cool! hehe! and you got to give gum My friend bought him a coffee when we saw them in Providence. Linnell held up his shaking hands and said "I don't think I need any more coffee..."
I'm glad everything went so great!

no, it wasn't visable. i had on a regular t-shirt that covered it. if he saw it, he'd probably just think i was insane anyway.
i didn't get Spin The Dial at my show, if that makes you feel any better, GR. (they did it in St Louis though) i think all the shows are a little different, which is good.
i've never seen em do Spirailing Shape.
i am soooooo tired. i hope i sleep good tonight.

They played Ana Ng at my show. If I had Lincoln , I'd know if they played any others from it. Sounds like you had an awesome time, biff!
But 29 songs? We didnt get anywhere near that. I'm thinking the crowd in Columbus was just too drunk and obnoxious, and they wanted to get out of there.
We did get Spin the Dial, though, and it was great. Tainted Love came on, and so they started playing that, then went in to either Robot Parade or Older (cant remember) and segued perfectly back in to Tainted Love! It was great!

our crowd was pretty obnoxious too. i think they might have cut out a few songs. galoot got hit with a water bottle that some idiot threw from the balcony. they really needed a few bouncers in that place.
on the bright side, there was nobody nagging you to leave as soon as it was over like there are at most shows i've been to.

here's my Spine siggy...
aaaaaah!

Cool.
I guess the crowd was pretty good at the Omaha show. The worst it got was probably before the 2nd encore, when the people up front started pounding on the stage, chanting for "Istanbul". (Which never got played.)

i'm glad you didn't get any drunks on you, GR.
here's my confetti...
