Well here's my review:
So I got there before the gates opened, but upon getting in there was nowhere to stand! All of the area in front of the stage was packed with people in lawn chairs and sitting on blankets. So I went down to the T-Shirt stand to see if there was any empty space up in that area. At the T-Shirt stand I bought “They Got Lost” and picked up one of the free foam fingers. Since I couldn't find a seat up there I went to the area by the sound booth since it was fairly empty back there. I was standing right behind the lighting board and stayed there for most of the show. I waited around, had some nachos, and felt generally bored until the first band came on.

The first opening band, Tally Hall, was very enjoyable. After their fairly short set the next band came on. The Bad Examples were not very good in my opinion, kind of like a bar band. They played WAY too long, no opening band should ever get to play an hour and a half. Sometime during their set Iggy came over to the lighting board, and since I figured I had no chance of getting the autograph of anyone in the band I asked Iggy for his, he seemed somewhat surprised and signed a note card I had (it was all I had in my pocket for him to sign.)

Finally it was time for the main event. They were as awesome as always despite some problems, Flans messed up the lyrics on NYC and Linnel messed up on Why Does the Sun Shine and In the Middle. No big deal since the show was so awesome in every other respect. My position was pretty bad though since I had to keep looking around the spot light operators. Some notable parts of the show were: a short version of Boss of Me, the future of sound on The Guitar, no confetti cannon on James K. Polk, and getting to hear The Cap'm which I'd never heard before. In Drink! we were asked to sing Drink!Drink! in quick succession after he sang the word drink. During Everybody Conga he kept yelling at the people who wouldn't get out of the way of the conga line. Despite the set list showing two encores they only played one and left out Careful What you Pack.

Afterward I Iggy gave me his setlist which is the first one I've managed to get. I quickly ran over to the gate by the side of the stage with a bunch of other people in hopes of getting an autograph. While we were waiting I was talking to a guy who had brought the faceplate off of his accordion in hopes of getting Linnell to sign it. After about five minuets Dan Miller and John Linnell came out the very gate we were waiting at. We cheered, they waved and smiled, and took off down the sidewalk as fast as they could without running. I guess they didn't want to sign any autographs. Then I went home.

(I'll post some pictures later)

i'm sorry they ran off at the end. dang. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

so, what was The Cap'm like? tmbgtalk/icon2.gif

i think it rocks that you got Iggy's autograph. i bet he'll always remember you now. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif (unlike the actual rock stars, who never do) tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif

I want to see a TMBG concert SO badly! XD I'd probably be afraid to get an autograph.

I'd probably be afraid to get an autograph.

I thought I would be, too -- I can be extremely shy in person, and approaching a celebrity for an autograph can be an even more daunting task if you have a massive crush on that celebrity tmbgtalk/-bigblush.gif -- but getting Flansburgh's autograph was actually pretty easy. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif If you see him selling stuff at the merchandise stand, though, don't bug him then; wait until he's done with that, because he'll usually stick around afterwards to give autographs and let you have your picture taken with him. tmbgtalk/+daz.gif

Linnell rarely sticks around for autographs after shows, presumably because he's almost as shy as I am when it comes to dealing with people (but at least he's not too intimidated to perform on stage in front of large audiences, which I can't even imagine myself doing).

What! Those foam fingers were FREE?!?! Awww man, if I knew that I would have taken some tmbgtalk/-frown.gif
I didn't see anything that said about them being free so I thought they were selling them... tmbgtalk/-frown.gif
I bought a t-shirt though... You'd think they would tell people that they were giving them away! Blagh.

Thunderbird- 08-28-2006
The foam fingers were free, but you're right, they didn't go out of their way to point that out.

Also, I'd always heard Linnell rarely gave autographs, but I thought maybe the guy with the accordion faceplate would catch his curiosity and he'd stop, oh well. tmbgtalk/-frown.gif

tmbgtalk/-hello.gif Xia! welcome to the board. tmbgtalk/-grnbiggrin.gif

i'm sorry you didn't get a finger. tmbgtalk/-frown.gif

Linny only signs at instores, as far as i know. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif i think he's afraid of his fans, cuz of stalkers. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

Flans will sign all night. tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif he'll sass ya too. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif

Great writeup! Congrats on getting Iggy's autograph. I agree with GR - he'll probably remember that! Marty Beller was surprised when I asked for his autograph, though I don't know why...

And yes, I think in-stores are the best venues for autographs. You can even sass back!

i always sass Flansy back. why not? it's not like he's ever gonna remember me. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif (& umm... & i was the one who said that about Iggy, but it's early in Cali, i know) tmbgtalk/-wink.gif

i shook Marty's hand after the show in St Louis the night the Spine came out, & he seemed truly shocked. that was right around when he first started with the band, i think. i didn't have anything for him to sign. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

I didn't take any pictures of the actual show, since cameras were not allowed in, and mine was too big to smuggle into the show.
