I HATE our school system. It is MESSED UP. Nothing that we learn past 6th grade is of any use, especially math. The math that im in now, in junior year of high school, is simply busywork, just like everything else. My math class involves just pushing buttons on a calculator. Chemistry? Thats rediculous. I understand that I may use it if I go into a carreer that involves chemistry. BUT THEN I WOULD GO TO FUCKING COLLEGE FOR IT.

The constitution? Our corrupt, brainless, contradicting constitution? I dont need to know that crap. Its going to change by the time im older anyway. I know my rights, thats good enough. The only reason that my mom could come up with for when she used it was
"I used it to help you guys study for the constitution."

Pathetic.

My english class. dont get me started on that. ANNOTATING DESTROYS GOOD BOOKS. I will never have the need to anotate and study a book to the point of no return in my future. Especially brainless, monkey books like "The Adventures of Hucklberry Finn". And dont say you like that book, because your wrong.

Our nation runs on ignorance, it runs on people doing exactly what they are told with no question, which is exactly what our school system is raising poor innocent kids like me to do. In the end, they are going to end up pulling levers and pushing buttons like monkeys.

Its "F'SKED".

And the music program! Oh the music program! Our school has a great music program! THe only problem is, none of it goes on your GPA! Person A is a genious in music but terribe in everything else. Person B is great in everything BUT music. This gives person B a better chance at going to college for music!

ITS INSULTING.
(I happen to be person A.)

Its not like the system has any compassion for people with personality and learning disorders like ADD tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif and bipolar disorder. Its hard for us head cases.
I cringe in school, because I am forced to listen to their mindless ape babble about protons and imaginary numbers.
Well theres my rant. I feel better.

tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif good. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif

i think a lot of the problem with public school is that they have to base their curriculum of the stuff you need to know to pass the tests you have to take in order to get money from the government. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

i had some wonderful teachers when i was a kid.

woodsie (one of our members) is in her first year of teaching math, & my son ignatz is in his last year of college to become an english teacher, so at least there is hope for the future. tmbgtalk/Twilight_anim.gif

when i was a kid & i would gripe to my Mom about what i was learning in school she would say something like "get used to it. you're going to have to do stuff you don't like for the rest of your life." tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif good old Mom.

Mister Horrible- 10-24-2005
Well SOMEONE has to stop it.

Sadly, this can never be.
I am not allowed to think!

I AM NOT ALLOWED TO EVER COME UP WITH A SINGLE ORIGIONAL THOUGHT,
AND I AM NOT ALLOWED TO MEET THE CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT AGENT WHO OPRESSES ME.

It's very sad, but true -as biff said- the only reason kids go to school these days is to obtain grades for tests which in turn gives the government their pay. I don't think that the government should spend more money on education, but more time planning more effective ways to present the subjects to the students.

Chemistry, Algebra, History, English, Literature, Philosophy, Physics, Biology, Music Theory, EVERYTHING is important. It makes a well rounded person. If you, Mister Horrible, think that the subjects in school our worthless you're not looking at it with the right attitude. I think it's the teachers and the board of education who need to be reprimanded.

A guy who can recite "Marc Anthony's Eulogy" or Jack Kearouac or even Walt Whitman...well turn me on. Knowledge is ultimate power. Betraying myself, like I always do, knowledge also can be harmful. It is your responsibility to decide what to do with the knowledge you are given. Ignorance is highly dangerous and more harmful than knowledge; i'll take the lesser of the evils.

I never really liked "Huck Finn," but it is a part of American society and so you should get the taste of it.

But I guess you have other interests which will serve your future well. It's not the money, nor the grades but the fufilment of being out of ignorance. Weighing your alternatives in life and how they will effect others and creating a good life for you. Maybe you don't want to vote in the future, that is fine; maybe you do, that is fine also. Either way you must have a reason to pick your position. People who don't say why they pick positions on things are doing a bad thing to themselves.

I joke a lot, but education is a very important topic. I also think that people who don't want to go to school, should prove themselves elsewhere- but they better be good at what they do and understand what they are doing. I wouldn't want a plumber to work on my pipes if he's still got the "How to work on toilets" manual in his hand. But I'd admire a plumber who knew my pipes so well that he could instanly find the problem and get that bad boy working.

Just some stuff to think about.

what they need to do is let the teachers decide. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

i take education very seriously too. we don't have a lot of money, so both of my kids had to do well enough in school to get scholarships if they wanted to go to college. they both did. i pay $0 for their college. they make me so proud. tmbgtalk/-cry3.gif

if i won the lottery, i would use the money to send them to any school they wanted. tmbgtalk/0sighguy.gif

i think college should be free for everyone. a lot of their friends have to take out huge loans to go. it's a shame. they're gonna be in debt before their lives even begin. tmbgtalk/0sighguy.gif

My high school was a really awful environment. They had teachers who didn't know what the hell they were doing. I didn't learn anything there. Not that it matters since I'm on pernament disability anyway. But I am proud that I get a lot of knowledge by watching the History, Discovery and National Geographic channels on tv. I've learned more from them than I ever did in high school.

biff- 10-25-2005
i'm on disability too, because of the optic nerve damage from my brain tumor. i'm kinda glad, but it also kinda sux. it's like i'm always at the mercy of the Social Security Administration. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif we wouldn't be near as broke if i could go out & work.

if you don't mind me asking, what is your disability? tmbgtalk/icon2.gif (you don't have to answer if you don't want to)

Mister Bones- 10-25-2005
You had a brain tumor? I'm sorry to hear that. Stuff like that shouldn't happen to nice people like you.

I'm disabled because of a variety of mental disorders. It's so complex that I'd rather not get into it.

biff- 10-25-2005
O I C. that's understandable. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

i had a brain tumor twice, actually. it wasn't supposed to come back, but it did. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

on the bright side, i have a kick @$$ scar, & i get to sit around on the computer all day. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif

life is good. tmbgtalk/104.gif (mostly cuz i'm actually still alive. i probably shouldn't be) tmbgtalk/-wink.gif

Mister Bones- 10-25-2005
I'm glad you're alive. And I'm glad we have such a cool person running this cool site about TMBG. tmbgtalk/-th-u.gif

biff- 10-25-2005
thank you, SSS. tmbgtalk/Twilight_anim.gif i'm glad nice people like you come here, or this place would be nothing but a bunch of colourful nothing. tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif

one of the big problems New zealand has is that cos people have to take out such huge loans to study, especially stuff like Medicine and dentistry etc that when they graduate they cant possibly make enough money in our health industry to pay it off so they just leave for another country where doctors and dentists are payed better and forget about their loans. so we then have to import our doctors from countries where doctors get payed even less

I always sucked at everything but english. cos I have no brain for numbers. which every other subject is mostly about. but oh well at least I get to aimlessly move heavy boxes around for a living tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

biff- 10-27-2005
tmbgtalk/icon2.gif what would be the point of going to all the trouble to become a doctor if you couldn't make lots of money? tmbgtalk/icon2.gif

horrid goblin- 10-27-2005
you can just not in New Zealand, basically the idea is if they skip country then they don't have to pay their loans back so they got all that education for free

biff- 10-27-2005
tmbgtalk/icon2.gif i see what you're saying...

a lot of people don't pay off their student loans here too. i'm really glad my kids never had to take any out. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif
