Howlee- 06-08-2005
A BUDDY OF MINE HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS EMAIL.
SO YESTERDAY MINE STARTED ACTING FUNNY.
BASICALLY:

AFTER I LEAVE MY INBOX I LOSE ALL OF THE EMAILS THAT WERE THERE!

I JUST LOST MY MAC OS X CONFIRMATION!

MY INBOX IS BASICALLY ALWAYS EMPTY. IF I DON'T VIEW EVERYTHING THAT I GET BEFORE I LEAVE, I'LL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. IT'S NOT IN THE DELETED FILES OR ANYTHING!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON?

I USE OUTLOOK EXCRAP!!!!

Howlee- 06-08-2005
ANOTHER THING:

CAN I EVEN HAVE ALL OF THE STUFF THAT I HAVE ON MY COMPUTER. MAYBE I'VE GOT TOO MUCH GOING ON AND IT'S MESSING UP EVERYTHING.

I'VE GOT QUICKTIME PLAYER, WEBMEDIA PLAYER, AND REAL (NONE OF THEM ARE WORKING RIGHT, THEY OPEN SOME STUFF BUT NOT ALL).

THEN I'VE GOT MOZILLA AND INTERNET EXPLORER.

DO I NEED TO JUST CHOSE ONE PROGRAM AND STICK TO IT OR WHAT?

HOW DO YOU UNINSTALL EVERYTHING?

IS THERE SOME SORT OF DISK THAT I CAN PURCHASE TO JUST CLEAN UP ALL MY CRAP?
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY COPIES OF WHAT I'VE GOT AND EVERYTIME I START DIGGING AROUND AND TRYING TO SORT IT OUT I THINK I MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE.

HELP, I'M DROWNING IN IGNORANCE! tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif

Howlee,

Check to make sure under your VIEW menu, you don't have it set to display Unread messages only...

I don't have that app, so I don't know exactly how it looks. But that's an option in my Outlook at work .. View->Current View->Messages (vs. Unread Messages)

i don't have any idea. i always use yahoo or gmail mail. i haven't used the inbox that came with my computer in years & years, cuz i never liked it. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

maybe BigJohn will know something...

you should really get a yahoo or gmail address, Howl. yahoo even checks your attachments for viruses. they give you tons of space now...

Just for sanity's sake, it is highly unlikely that it is an email virus. tmbgtalk/Twilight_anim.gif

WHew! You had me worried there for a minnit ... I thought one of our erstwhile Mac users got a virus ... a highly unlikely occurrence, to be sure. tmbgtalk/tongue.gif

well i still say you should get an email address from an online source, like yahoo or gmail. i absolutely hate that crummy email that comes with a computer. i only use it if i'm trying to get like free webspace where they will only accept that kind. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

don't get hotmail though, cuz it sux too. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif

Howlee- 06-08-2005
Well I was freaking out because I know that Mac's don't get virus's but Alan was having problems with his too and then all of a sudden mine.
I actually like Outlook Express better than the online stuff because it's organized in a way that my brain can handle. It looks cleaner and neater. tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif
I've tried a lot of online ones but didn't like 'em. I guess it's a personal brain orginizational pattern preference thing. tmbgtalk/-grnbiggrin.gif

I've never had problem with me email until just now. It was super simple to fix though thanks to Big John! I almost reinstalled the whole program and would of lost a lot of stuff!

I can't wait to get Mac OS X installed. That'll be a whole new headache I'm sure, trying to get everything in order and working right. Then what about all of my zip disks with Mac OS9 files?

Can I just burn those to a disk and use it on OS X or will they just be lost? tmbgtalk/-omg.gif

Why can't technology just stand still for a damn second and let me catch up gracefully!?

I always feel like I'm tripping and scrambeling all over the place just to get caught up and once I get there...everything changes again!!!!!!!!!! tmbgtalk/Swearin.gif AAAAAARGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

If they come out with Mac OS XI Super dooper Lion or some blast, and it messes me up again...I will sue somebodies blastin ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tmbgtalk/-roflmao.gif

Has anyone tried that .mac business?
I doubt I will because of the price but it sounds cool.

biff- 06-08-2005
i haven't tried that .mac business. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

i'm glad you got your mail fixed though. i honestly don't know what we'd do without BigJohn. tmbgtalk/+no2.gif

I just got a .mac account, and i like it so far. Its integration with iLife is really pretty cool, and it includes virus protection and backup. So I'm pretty pleased with it. I did miss out on the rebate, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper if you buy it from Amazon. From Amazon it comes out to about 5 bucks a month, 60 bucks for the year.

OSX comes with OS9 included with it, and you can install it so you can use older apps before you get newer ones. It's a little weird to get used to - you start up your computer, then run an app - which actually launches os9 in a separate window, and then inside that window you can do things like install applications to be used in os9. It works pretty durn well.

As long as your zip drive has an interface that connects it to your computer, you can use it with OSX, as far as I know. At most, you'd probably need to get new drivers.

In other words, they really do make it pretty seamless to upgrade. The only down side is that if you need to use certain software, and you don't get OSX-friendly versions, you just end up using everything in os9 "classic" mode, which is not necessarily bad, just not as zing-pow! as OSX.

I'm happy to help any way I can. Something about me being a 9 ... anyway, I promise not to pressure you into buying an extended warranty. tmbgtalk/Twilight_anim.gif

biff- 06-08-2005
extended warrantys rock though. i wish i woulda bought one for this computer, cuz the closest place that fixes Macs is a 2 hour drive away. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif with the warranty, they'll come out to your house! tmbgtalk/-eek.gif

BigJohn- 06-08-2005
yeah, i got an extended warranty with my new imac. the imac itself comes with in-home service, but they send out CompUSA and I don't want them touching my computer. So I drive it to the Apple Store. Them guys are geniuses.
