I'm not 100%, but I thought installing OSX would keep your OS9 installation, unless you did a complete clean install. If you didn't do a clean install, go to System Preferences (in your dock at the bottom - the thing that looks like a control panel) and choose "Classic" and start up the classic environment. If your OS9 installation was preserved, you should be able to see all your old stuff.
I got the student/teacher edition of Office:Mac for about $129 I think. Full-fledged version for 1/3 the price.
Appleworks you get when you buy an iMac, but not when you just buy the OS by itself. The only thing you get with OSX is Textedit, which is a robust basic text editor. Script editor will not help you.
