so, it's all over the news... would you want to be kept alive like that? i don't think i would. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

i think Bush & Congress should stay out of it. i can't help it, that's just the way i feel. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

uuuhhh.....what am I missing here?

I first heard about Schiavo a couple of years ago (on talk radio's Glenn Beck Show)... tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

No opinion yet, but it's no-win situation: Leave the feeding tube out, and a human life is taken away (via starvation, a slow and very painful way to go); put it back in, and Terri continues living in her vegetative state (which, if she is capable of feeling and/or thought, must be frustrating as hell for her -- being barely able to move, and unable feed or take care of herself). tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

I agree, though, that Congress should stay the hell out of it and not make it into a Federal case. tmbgtalk/+argh.gif They should leave it to Terri's family, doctors, etc.

I also think Terri's husband is an asshole (to put it mildly) for having kids with another woman while staying married to Terri. tmbgtalk/2mad.gif I think the only reason he never obtained a divorce from Terri was that he could have his say in whether or not she should be euthanised (rather than leave it up to her parents, who would rather keep her alive).

I live on the underside of a big Rock called the world so I have no idea what you're talking about tmbgtalk/dunno.gif tmbgtalk/-ponder.gif

I've been following Terri's case for over 7 years now. I am very much in agreement with most of what gr said -- including the part about her *ahem* husband. The only part I don't agree with is the part about Congress staying out of it. I truly feel that something needs to be done. There needs to be an investigation into all that has happened to Terri. If you check out her website that her parents set up: here -- they have listed a timeline of things that have happened to Terri in the past 15 years. Now Carl and I have both said that by no means do either one of us what to be hooked up to anything in order to stay alive. But this case has really caused us to decide what exactly we would do if this were one of us.

Terri is only (or rather was only) hooked up to a feeding tube. Nothing else. Her *wonderful* husband has not allowed for any sort of therapy or rehabilitation to allow her to get better. Why does he care? He is no longer married to her -- I mean come on, he has 2 children with this other woman that he has lived with for the past 10 years. Let her parents take over her care and be done with it. I voted to put her feeding tube back in.

it's a sad situation all the way around, that's for sure. i just know that laying in a bed grunting & pooping in your diapers doesn't sound like a life to me. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

if someone left me to 'live' like that, they wouldn't want to meet up with me in the afterlife, i can tell you that for sure.

ps... i just want to mention that i respect everyone's opinions on this subject, wether i agree with them or not. tmbgtalk/grouphug.gif (just sos you knows)

It's situations like this that make me wonder why euthanasia is illegal. In my opinion the best thing for her is death, but it shouldn't be from starvation. I'm pretty sure she won't suffer from the starvation but to me it just seems very inhumane.

biff- 03-24-2005
well, from what i hear she's on morphine so she's not suffering. also, if her cerebral cortex is really spinal fluid like they say, she wouldn't feel that sort of stuff anyway. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

it's real sad, but i think if she was my daughter, i'd let her go. i know how bad you want to hold on to your kids, but that's not your job as a parent. a parent has to have the courage to let go, nomatter how bad it hurts. tmbgtalk/-frown.gif

but it's easy for me to say, since i'm not in their place. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

ok, I'm having a hard time pieceing this story together, cuz I've never heard anything about it. What's going on? some one please help me out here! maybe a link to a news site or a brief explanation.

here's 6,207 of em... http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&gl=us&n...y%3Fid%3D611279 take your pick. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

klimdeeni- 03-24-2005
i read 3 of them, but I can't see why they stopped feeding her
couldn't they at least put her down with a shot or gas or something?
that's so inhuman

biff- 03-24-2005
it's against the law to 'put somebody down' like that, unless they are a convicted criminal who recieved the death penalty. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

crazy world...

tmbgtalk/icon2.gif That's something I hadn't considered, Christy. I guess if Congress had to get involved at all, that's how they should go about it...

tmbgtalk/yes2.gif My sentiments exactly, biff. It totally broke my heart when I first heard about it a couple years ago, and it still does. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif And I think it's pretty messed up that Terri has to starve to death, and she can't be "put to sleep" in some quick, more humane way.
