From Chud.coms top ten console games of the year
10) Katamari Damacy
Much like the Matrix, you can’t really be told what Katamari Damacy is…you have to play it for yourself. Sure, if I told you the game was a Japanese import with crude, blocky graphics that involved rolling objects into an ever-growing ball, you might understand what I’m talking about in a purely conceptual sense, but you wouldn’t understand why that was such a great thing. Screenshots and critical blurbs don’t begin to do this hypnotic, addictive game justice.
Why it ranked this high: The genius of the game is that you start small, rolling pencils, coins and thimbles into a ball…which then collects more objects. Over time, your rolling ball gets larger and larger, to the point where you’re soon sucking up trees, houses and any critters unlucky enough to wander across your path. The entire process is strangely soothing, and I can promise that you’ll walk away from every Katamari session with a smile on your face.
Why it didn’t rank higher: As brilliant and original as the game is, there’s no getting around the fact that it can be beaten in a few hours. The $20 price tag and the ability to replay levels for a better score help ease the sting a bit, but it’s still possible to tear through the entire game in a single sitting. Bring on the sequel already!
well, there you go then.

one sitting for that guy is probably like 23 1/2 hours, & he's a video game genius.

galoot only plays it like an hour at a time.
there's also a 2 player mode.
I havnt seen it here yet but I try to avoid game shops cos I don't need the temptation
yeah, I've known about that game for a while and wanted to try it but I don't have a ps2.
It looks so freakin' japanese!

it's pretty cool. too bad you don't have PS2.
KD rocks!
And guess what? the sequel, called "Everybody Loves Katamary Damacy" ( no really, it is ) should be out fairly soon. I no longer work at EB, that's just a holiday thing each year but I hang out and my friends there keep me updated.
bee's gonna love to hear that!
