my computer is riddled with viruses and it's pissing me off
pop-ups like CRAZY!
anyone know of a good free one?
i have spybot but it's not helping and everything else i try doesn't work

AdAware SE is pretty good for Adware and Spyware.

As for regular anti-virus software, I use Avast!

I like both, I used to use SpyBot along with them too, but it broke.

klimdeeni- 03-06-2006
thanks fire
does this just protect or does it also get them off if they're allready on?

AdAware works just like SpyBot.

Avast is like any other anti-virus, it does active protection and you can scan with it.

To do a full scan with Avast, right click on the 'a' icon on your toolbar and choose 'Start avast! Antivirus'. It'll start up and scan all of your running programs. When it opens, click on the top icon on the right side (local disks), then set the type of scan you want to use (do thorough the first time), and press the 'play' button all the way on the left.

...then wait while it scans your hundreds of thousands of files. tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif (I'm close to 500,000 files now. tmbgtalk/-nerd.gif )

It always asks for confirmation to delete/quarantine a virus for me, I've never checked if you could make it do that on its own. So, you might wanna do it when you can be around to check on it once in a while.

ok cool
i just used it
got rid of half my viruses
better than nothing i guess tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif
i had 406 infected files according to one failed anti-virus i downloaded

Yeah when I used to have problems with spyware and whatnot, it was always so satisfying to do that first scan and watch the number go up and up, knowing that you're about to delete them ALL tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif

biff- 03-06-2006
i thought they just fixed your computer. tmbgtalk/-ponder.gif did they give it back to you with tons of viruses on it?

klimdeeni- 03-06-2006
it didn't delete them all
I got all new viruses unable to be deleted apparently
lucky me!

yep, they gave me a virus riddled computer!
it's like christmas!

biff- 03-07-2006
yeah, Christmas in Hades. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif

They might not have all been viruses... virus'... virii... whatever. tmbgtalk/-wink.gif I know mine picks up corrupted archive files (.zip, .rar) and it refuses to delete or move them.

klimdeeni- 03-07-2006
well this stuff is called "bullseye network" and soemthing else
that is a virus for sure

i think i'm too dumb to have a PC. tmbgtalk/-lol2.gif

Well, if I ever get to build that computer I've been planning to for-freaking-ever, I won't have to worry about it either. tmbgtalk/-laugh.gif I'm prepared to embrace Linux now... especially since the biggest thing Windows has over it is gaming , and I don't play games on my computer anyways.

biff- 03-08-2006
i don't know nothing about Linux. tmbgtalk/-bigblush.gif

Best completely free antivirus+spyware:

Spyware/adware/popups - Microsoft's official Windows Defender - Who knows how to fix spyware better than the people who make the actual operating system?

Antivirus - AVG Free Edition - Awesome totally free antivirus with almost daily updates.

I set both of these to run automatically each night at 1AMish while I'm sleeping, so I know I'm always protected. tmbgtalk/-grnbiggrin.gif
