Here's my review of the 7/21/2007 show at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH.

The night started with Corn Mo putting on a great performance. Even though he had come out 30 minutes late, he still rocked the house (we actually ate at the same diner that he was at before the show)

So TMBG starts the night with "I'm Impressed" which was totally rocking, but as they are about to hit the final note, the entire power goes out on stage and they are left in darkness, with no sound.

After about 10 minutes of the stage crew trying to fix this problem, the Johns come out with an acoustic guitar and accordion and tell everyone to be really quiet while they perform "Maybe I Know" and "Particle Man" totally acoustic.

The fuse is finally repaired, and Flans promised us that they would play the full set-list....which was awesome, Starting back up with "Take Out The Trash" which actually makes for an amazing live song.

They played a lot of songs off "The Else", and a lot of songs that I had either never heard them play, or hadn't heard them play since the mid 90's. "Hi We're the Replacements", "No One Knows My Plan" and "It's Not My Birthday" were some of the highlights of the night.

When they do "With the Dark" they pretty much just do the "She's in love with her broken heart..." part, but with an extra verse.

but it totally rocks.



Oh, and a cool side story.

They had autographed a few copies of "The Else" before the show started. My friend Heather had bought one that had a joke written on the front cover, and the punchline was written on the back.

During the middle of the show, Flans tells the audience to buy copies of the CD that were autographed, and that one lucky person will get a copy with a joke that Linnell's son had told him. She was soooo excited.

I'll call her tomorrow and ask what the joke was...cause it was really cute.

excellent. i was hoping they'd be doing it, even if they had to tweak it a little.

I just remembered, they played With the Dark on the speakers when they were coming on stage. Only it was just the opening part after the beginning portion. When the song begins to play at quicker sort of pace without words, that's what played.
