when people send me large files to my gmail account it only downloads a little chunk of them and leaves the file incomplete and corrupted even though there's way more than enough space for them in there
are my setting screwed up or does gmail just hate me?
thanks

did you try emptying your cache?
don't worry, HG. we could always fileshare em, or better yet, i can upload em & post the links.
(but BigJohn can still answer, of course. he probably has a better idea)

I could empty my cache but then all the pages would take forever to load, I think they just stopped designing websites with dialup in mind about a year or so ago

i'm sorry.
i sent em to that other address you gave me. did they work? if not, i'll upload em.

I'm assuming they did but I gotta restart the computer and log in as aidan or mum to check that email adress, I should really fix it to where I can just access it but I'm lazy and stoopid
and now I'll have to check tomorrow cos it's late and I got school tomorrow morning, some work on the super secret project

Horrid are you saying:
a) When someone sends you a large file, the entire file does not get stored in your gmail account
or
b) When you try to download a large file that is in your gmail account, you can only download part of it
?
the first option probably has nothing to do with you - it's something between the sender and gmail. But the 2nd option could be your dialup access. It sounds like you're saying you try to download it, but never get the whole thing. It could partly be because of gmail's own timeouts ... there's a lot of things that become issues when you don't have a persistent high-speed connection.
If you determine a file size that works for you, say 1 meg or 500k or something like that, you could ask the user to use a tool like WinZip to split the file into smaller chunks. It's a little more work on the sender's side, but it might be worth the effort.
I also think you are NOT saying that when you try to download a file, it corrupts the one in your gmail account. In other words, if you suddenly were blessed with high-speed access, you probably could go download the file with no problem later.

well, i sent em to your regular email address, & i also uploaded em to Jazz's webspace (which is down at the moment, or was about 30 minutes ago, but will be back) & posted em on my SoTE thread, so you'll surely be able to get em one way or the other.
