Speaking of banks, it's been 2 weeks since my interview with US Bank -- I'm definitely not getting the position. tmbgtalk/0sighguy.gif You'd think I would be used to disappointment by now -- story of my life...

But I'm especially pissed off this time because the interviewer had told me that, of the handful of people who had applied, I appeared to be the most qualified candidate and that was why he was talking to me first.

Unless that was just a bullshit line he gives all candidates so they don't get too nervous during the interview process, the only other explanation is that more people probably applied after I had my interview and someone more qualified came along. tmbgtalk/-brick.gif

Of course, there's the possibility that I was passed over for someone LESS qualified -- maybe because I don't have my own car (even though driving/travel isn't part of the job), or the interviewer didn't like how I looked or how I came off in the interview (even though he said he was impressed by the resume I had included with the on-line application), etc. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

that sucks gr, I cant imagine how frustrating it would be to have all these qualifications but not be given the chance to use them tmbgtalk/-frown.gif

job interviews suck. i'm sorry GR. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif

Noah's been kinda going through the same thing. he's had interviews all over the state. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif

the thing that sucks the most is that they never call to tell you if you don't get it. you gotta just sit there & wonder. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif

It's one of the most frustrating feelings you can possibly have. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif It's one thing to not be able to hold down a position (because of repeatedly quitting, getting fired or being laid off) -- it's a whole other thing to have most employers not even give you a shot at anything to see what you can do.

Thanks, biff. Here's hoping that Noah has better luck than I've had... tmbgtalk/-crossfingers.gif

And yeah, it's torture when most employers won't tell you that you've been rejected. tmbgtalk/+sad2.gif I've gotten lucky a few times -- one place where I interviewed and one place where I sent a resume both cared enough to send me a personal e-mail when they filled the positions I was going for; and often as I've applied with Mutual of Omaha, they've never failed to send me a form-letter e-mail telling me that they're "pursuing other candidates" -- but those are rare exceptions.

have you ever tried going for a lesser position... at like wal mart or something... just to get some work experience? tmbgtalk/icon2.gif

i figure if Noah doesn't get hired as a teacher by the time school starts, he's gonna need to go work somewhere so he'll have work experience for his resume. (& to get some $$$) tmbgtalk/dunno.gif it seems like a lot of people don't wanna hire someone whose never had a job, even if it's cuz they were too busy getting As in college to go work somewhere. tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif

ARGH! the outside light that we just put in like a month ago is messed up, & i can't find the reciept. tmbgtalk/-brick.gif i loved my light! i called the home depot & they said they'd switch it for a new one if i bring in every single thing that was in the box. tmbgtalk/-brick.gif

how long do you gotta save that kind of stuff? if you saved every shread of evidence from every item you ever bought, you would need a whole extra house just to store it all. tmbgtalk/Swearin.gif

For a brief period last fall, I actually did get to work part-time as a phone operator for $6/hour at the cab company where my dad was working at the time. But because the company was doing better business during the shifts he was dispatching than during the other dispatchers' shifts -- Dad would assign fares to whichever driver was available, while the other dispatchers would save the highest-paying fares only for their favorite drivers and force customers to wait until those drivers became available) -- his bosses got pissed off at him after a month or so of my working there, and they started making him work alone so there wouldn't be anyone to take the calls that he missed whenever he had to leave the office and check in a driver. tmbgtalk/2mad.gif

As for a Wal-Mart, we have one in Omaha, but it's way too far across town to get there without your own transportation... I signed up with a temp agency back in January and I still haven't been offered anything through them. I've tried for just some plain secretary-receptionist positions, but I when I actually got to interview for one, I was told that they would be less like likely to hire me because they think I wouldn't be happy doing work that wasn't necessarily in my field of study. tmbgtalk/dunno.gif

tmbgtalk/icon2.gif A couple of weeks ago, though, my dad gave a copy of my resume to a CPA office not too far from where he works now in Council Bluffs; and even though the guy had just hired an intern for his own office, he recommended some other CPA firms that I could contact for a possible internship or part-time office-help position. So next week I'm going to make a few calls and hopefully get something set up...

I thought you did tmbgtalk/-wink.gif

sucks about your light, never save stuff like receits or anything. one thing that bugs me is that it costs $2.50 to take the bus into town but you get a free ride back if you use the ticket within an hour, I'd much rather have a cheaper fare and have to pay both ways cos I'm always in there more than an hour

biff- 07-29-2006
*kicks the bus* tmbgtalk/-eyes.gif

i found the instruction book. tmbgtalk/woo.gif i also discovered that i either wrote a check, or used my check card, so they might have a record of it after all. tmbgtalk/-crossfingers.gif i'll call em again tomorrow.

boy GR, i sure hope your luck turns around soon. it's not like you haven't been trying. tmbgtalk/-ohwell.gif i think i'll put you back on the prayer chain tomorrow. tmbgtalk/-crossfingers.gif

I hate it when someone says they will do something, in which will save my life, then says they cant....

biff- 07-30-2006
yeah, that would suck. tmbgtalk/-thumbsdown.gif
