A new addition... the Flood CD insert, folded out with creases photoshopped away:

that's gorgeous, Mr Signed.

My scan of "The Else":
The iTunes version of this cover has white text in the black bar at the right edge reading "THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS THE ELSE". The CD insert I have has no text at all. I decided I liked the idea of title text on the cover, but I wanted something better than the cheesy looking text on the iTunes version.
I got an idea to try something -- I scanned the CD itself and superimposed the label from the disc onto the album cover, and I thought it looked pretty good that way. Scanning the disc produced some interesting refractive coloring from the "THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS" part of the label, which is simply un-inked and reflective. Perhaps I'm taking too much artistic license with someone else's cover art, but I like the results I got myself.

that looks great, Mr Signed.

why doesn't mine say "they might be giants the else" on the cover?

I updated the image I posted early -- after going to the wiki, and finding the big 1421x1374 image there, I decided it was better source material than scanning my own CD insert. After seeing the wiki image, it looks like the print quality of my insert is on the dark and murky side, missing a lot of the shadow detail in the clothing, the contrast between the leather of the gloves and the fabric of the jackets, etc. My CD insert image was cropped down from the field of view that can be seen the wiki image too.
I took the wiki image, squared it off by trimming the width of the black stripe, did some minor clean up and color adjustment, removed the white text (the same text the iTunes cover art had, that my own CD insert didn't), then overlaid the earlier scan I'd done of the disc label.
(If the image looks the same as before, just refresh your browser -- I replaced the image that's found at the same URL that I posted before.)

it looks great again, Mr Signed.

QUOTE
There’s no name on the album cover. There’s no title, which we really haven’t done since our second album. And anybody in the music business will tell you that it’s a terrible idea. It’s just a way to completely cripple your sales because, in the bins, people will just not know what it is. It was just impossible to figure out what type treatment would work. Every type treatment just seemed wrong. A graphic designer said to me years and years ago, “Anybody can put a photograph on something and then just leave it.” In some ways, I have to admit it was a cop-out. But it didn’t work any other way. So, what can you do but give up when you realize you’ve already failed.

Since leaving the cover art title-free appears to have been an artistic decision that was carefully considered, I'll just have to ask the my version of the cover art be considered as a picture of the true cover art along with a magnified picture of the disc label, which just happens to be sitting next to the cover art in a kind of album art still life composition.
By the way, can anyone tell me what the source material was for the really big copy of the cover art I found in the wiki? As I mentioned before, that version does have title text.

i don't know.... but hopefully Q will see this cuz i'm sure he probably does.
(my guess is that it's probably one of the advance copies that went out to radio stations & reviewers, but that's just a guess)
